BIO

Jiri Pokorny nasce a Praga, Repubblica Ceca, nel 1981. Inizia la sua formazione come ballerino nella scuola del Teatro Nazionale di Praga all’età di otto anni per poi proseguire i suoi studi all’Accademia Nazionale di Danza, sempre nella capitale della Repubblica Ceca.
Conseguito il Diploma, inizia la sua carriera artistica all’interno della compagnia della Laterna Magika Praha (2000), tre anni dopo si unisce al collettivo di giovani artisti del Nederlands Dans Theater 2 e nel 2006 viene inserito nel gruppo prinicipale denominato Nederlands Dans Theater 1.
Grazie a questa esperienza, conosce numerosi coreografi di fama internazionale quali: Jiri Kylian, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Crystlal Pite. Inizia a creare anche brevi performance e coreografie, insegnando presso la scuola del Nederlands Dans Theater e in stage internazionali come il Mediterraneo dance festival in Italia e l’Architanz in Giappone. Nel 2010 presenta il suo primo lavoro coreografico strutturato “Dead Nature”, creato per il Nederlands Dans Theater e in agosto si unisce al Kidd Pivot Frankfurt, la compagnia diretta dalla coreografa canadese Crystal Pite. Attualemte Jiri continua la sua carriera come coreografo; il suo recentissimo lavoro, DOZE è stato premiato nel Gennaio 2013 per NDT2. Nello stesso anno ha debuttato in Nord America con Blacj Clouds Don’t Cry.
A tutt’oggi è uno degli ospiti più ambiti in stage e festival di portata internazionale.

BIO

Jirí Pokorný was born in Prague, Czech Republic in 1981.
He started his dance training at the pre-ballet school of the State Opera in Prague when he was eight years old and continued his studies at the Prague National Dance Conservatory. After his graduation, Jiri joined Laterna Magika Praha (2000) and three years later he joined Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (NDT2) in The Hague, advancing to NDT1 in 2006. He has worked with many renowned choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite and others.
Jiri has also created his own works at the annual choreography workshop “Switch From Dancer to Choreographer”, collaborated with physical theatre “Spitfire Company” in Prague and taught for Move In, the education department of NDT, Mediterraneo Dance Festival in Italy, and Architanz Japan. His works Dead Nature and Flying Roof were created for NDT’s Summer Intensive in 2010/11. In August 2010, Jiri joined Crystal Pite’s company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt. Currently, Jiri is continuing his career as a choreographer. His recent works, Doze, was created for NDT2 and premiered in January 2013. In the same year, Black Clouds Don’t Cry was premiered by Dekkadancers at the New Stage of National Theater Prague.
This is Jiri’s debut work in North America.
